Welcome

Friends of Kagando is a UK based charitable trust set up in 2003 and managed by a board of Trustees who are past long-term workers at Kagando or regular visitors.

The charity aims to support Kagando Hospital by raising funds, sending equipment and encouraging friends and colleagues working there by correspondence and visits.

About Us

Hospital

Kagando Hopsital is a 250 bed general hospital in the foothills of the Rwenzori mountains in Western Uganda, just 20km from the border with Congo. It serves a population of about 350,000 in a poor rural area where most people are subsistence farmers.

Friends

Friends of Kagando is a UK based charity which supports the Hospital financially as well as by prayer, communication and visits. We have also provided help with clinical, technical, management, educational, pastoral and fund-raising activities.

Electives and Visits

Kagando offers great opportunities for students to experience medicine in an African setting. Students from all over the world studying medicine, nursing, physiotherapy and occupational therapy have spent elective periods at the hospital, and qualified volunteers are also welcome.

Community Work

Kagando hospital developed to serve the community and an important aspect of this work involves regular outreach visits to surrounding villages. These include maternal and child health (vaccinations, antenatal and postnatal care), palliative care, mental health and health education.
