Kagando is a Not for Profit (NFP) Church of Uganda Hospital. It was founded under Africa Inland Mission in January 1965, and is closely integrated with and supported by Uganda’s Ministry of Health.
40% of Uganda’s health care is provided by NFP units like Kagando.
The hospital is part of Kagando Hospital and Rural Development Centre (KARUDEC) which in turn is a member of the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMG). UPMG provides a crucial link between hospitals and the Uganda Ministry of Health, ensuring that government support and health policies reach them.
The Executive Director of the hospital is Rev Canon Dr Uzziah Maate Kiriaghe, who is supported by a management team including the Medical Director, Hospital and Projects Manager, Human Resources Manager, Chaplain and Finance Manager. This team make all the decisions about the day to day running of the hospital and allocation of resources and is accountable to the Board of Governors comprising members from health, the diocese, local government, the local community and Friends of Kagando.
